The Pearl Harbor is a harbor which is located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Its name originated from the pearl oysters which were profusely harvested in the area. Pearl Harbor is the largest natural harbor in Hawaii which is found in the west side of Honolulu. Much of the boundaries of Pearl Harbor and the lands surrounding it are a deep-water naval base of the United States Navy. Pearl Harbor is also the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. In the United States, Pearl Harbor is the only naval base to be designated a historical landmark of the nation.
